The Course:

You have a choice of two trail running events, the mighty marathon or the heavenly half marathon.

The course consists of 2 separate loops. The first loop is completed by both the Trail 26 and Trail 13 competitors. The second loop is for the Trail 26 competitors only. The course lay out makes it spectator friendly, as your supporters will get to see the marathon runners at the half way point as they pass back through the Visitors Centre, which also acts as the start and finish.

The route on the first loop is a mixture of gravel, trail path and fire roads which wind their way through the pine trees of Grizedale Forest, together with some open grassy sections which provide a stunning view of Coniston Water. Generally the first loop is well drained but if we have a British Winter there is a chance of mud!

The route on the second loop is bit more technical underfoot with more uneven terrain, boggy areas, open fields and some small sections of road. It will be all worth it when you finally catch sight of Lake Windermere.

The Grizedale trail running event can be classed as “lumpy” (Trail 26 code for “it’s a tad hilly”). There are significant climbs on both the Trail 13 half marathon course and the Trail 26 marathon course to test even the most hardened of trail runners.

The Grizedale trail running course will be fully signed with bright yellow directional signs together with our famous “motivational quotes” to keep you going. This year we will also have mile markers and Strava segment signs along the course.

There will be 3 feeding stations/checkpoints on the course containing a variety of delights from the classic jelly baby to the extraordinary cocktail sausage surprise. There will be one feed stop on the first loop for the Trail 26 and Trail 13 competitors, one at the Visitors Centre for the Trail 26 competitors (half way) and one on the second loop for the Trail 26 competitors.

Refreshments:

The café at Delamere Forest will be open. They provide a wide variety of food and drinks and will be offering a discount to competitors who show their race number.

Parking:

The Grizedale trail running event parking is free of charge as this has been included in your entry fee. We advise that you arrive early to make your experience of getting through the registration process stress free.

Please follow the signs and marshal instructions to use the dedicated race car parks. It is approximately a 15 minute brisk walk from the furthest car park to the registration area.
