You have a choice of two trail running events, The full marathon (Trail 26) or the half marathon (Trail 13). The course consists of 2 separate loops. The first loop is completed by both the Trail 26 and Trail 13 competitors. The second loop is for the Trail 26 competitors only. The course lay out makes it spectator friendly, as your supporters will get to see the marathon runners at the half way point as they pass back through the Visitors Centre, which also acts as the start and finish.
The route on the first loop is a mixture of gravel, trail path and fire roads which wind their way through the pine trees of Grizedale Forest, together with some open grassy sections which provide a stunning view of Coniston Water.
The route on the second loop is more technical underfoot with more uneven terrain, boggy areas, open fields and some small sections of road.
The Grizedale trail running course will be fully signed with bright yellow directional signs together with our famous “motivational quotes” to keep you going.
There will be 3 feeding stations/checkpoints on the course. There will be one feed stop on the first loop for the Trail 26 and Trail 13 competitors, one at the Visitors Centre for the Trail 26 competitors (half way) and one on the second loop for the Trail 26 competitors.
There will be refreshments available on the day for purchase from the Grizedale Visitors Centre café.
The Grizedale trail running event parking is free of charge as this has been included in your entry fee. We advise that you arrive early to make your experience of getting through the registration process stress free. Please follow the signs and marshal instructions to use the dedicated race car parks. It is approximately a 15 minute brisk walk from the furthest car park to the registration area.
Along the course there will be an opportunity to win fantastic prizes on our Strava segments. To be eligible for the Strava Challenge you will need to be a member of our Trail 26 Strava Club to become part of our Trail Running Revolution. You can join the revolution and the club by CLICKING HERE. Once you are a member, to enter the Strava Challenge you need to upload your run onto Strava following the event, and the winners will be selected randomly.
In addition to the Trail 26 trail race there will be a free Trail Kidz 1k trail running event for children taking place at 9am, with medals for all finishers. You will have enough time to run with your children before taking part in the main event! There is no online registration for this event. You will need to register your child(ren) on the day at the Trail Kidz Registration Tent.
Due to the location of the event, there will be a compulsory kit list for both the Trail 26 and Trail 13 events. All competitors will be notified in advance of race day as to what kit must be carried on the day.
